Researchers have introduced CellRank, a computational tool designed to map cell fate decisions in single-cell RNA sequencing data. Unlike traditional trajectory inference methods that require predefined directionality, CellRank integrates RNA velocity information to predict future cell states in processes such as development, regeneration, and disease. The tool identifies initial, intermediate, and terminal cell populations, estimates fate probabilities, and visualizes gene expression trends along lineages. Its application has revealed new dedifferentiation trajectories during lung regeneration, highlighting previously unknown intermediate cell states.
