Researchers at Fudan University have developed MEDY, a novel cryopreservation method using methylcellulose, ethylene glycol, DMSO, and Y27632. This technique effectively preserves cortical organoids and various brain-region-specific organoids without disrupting neural cytoarchitecture or functional activity. MEDY retains pathological features post-thaw and protects synaptic function while inhibiting apoptosis pathways. This advancement enables large-scale, reliable storage of neural organoids, facilitating extensive research, medical applications, and drug screening.
