NSF Launches ReDDDoT Initiative with $16 Million Funding for Ethical Technology

The National Science Foundation (NSF), in a landmark collaboration with five philanthropic organizations, has unveiled the Responsible Design, Development, and Deployment of Technologies (ReDDDoT) program, committing $16 million to integrate ethical, legal, and social values in the lifecycle of emerging technologies. ReDDDoT, a response to the imperative of the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022," invites cross-disciplinary proposals to foster technologies that enhance public welfare and preempt potential detriments. The program encourages diverse community engagement, aiming to build inclusive practices and educate the STEM workforce on responsible technology creation. Initial 2024 focus areas include AI, biotechnology, and disaster prevention, with an emphasis on empowering underrepresented communities.
