A recent study has identified the protein syndecan-binding protein (SDCBP) as a key promoter of pancreatic cancer progression. SDCBP prevents the degradation of Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) by inhibiting its interaction with the E3 ubiquitin ligase β-TrCP, leading to increased YAP1 stability and activity. Elevated YAP1 levels enhance the expression of genes associated with cell proliferation and survival, thereby facilitating tumor growth and metastasis. These findings suggest that targeting the SDCBP-YAP1 pathway could be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating pancreatic cancer.
